The yearly meeting of the Biomedical Photonics Network 2008 took place
on June 4, 2008, at the Palais de Beaulieu in Lausanne www.beaulieu.org.
It was collocated with the exhibition EPMT (Environnement Professionnel
MicroTechnologies, www.epmt.ch. The program consisted of oral and poster
presentations according to the enclosed program. The participants had
the opportunity to visit the exhibition.
We had an exciting and fruitful meeting in Lausanne.
The traditional BMPN Best Poster was awarded to Martin Villiger (LOB/EPFL)

The meeting took place at the University Hospital Zurich,
5th of June 2007 10:00 to 17:00
The annual meeting 2007 of the Biomedical Photonics Network (bmpn),
a work group of the SSOM, took place on 5th of June 2007. Since Biomedical
Photonics is an interdisciplinary field, which includes many clinical
applications, bmpn was hosted at the University Hospital and turned out
to be an exciting interdisciplinary event. It generated a lot of interest
and attracted more than 60 participants, who came almost equally distributed
from all over Switzerland and southern Germany. A novelty at this year's
meeting was the first presentation of an award for presenters younger
than 36 years inaugurated by FISBA Optik AG St. Gallen. The winner's
name is Fabrice Merenda whom the audience congratulated for his didactically
and scientifically excellent presentation.

This year the 11th Engelberg lectures of the SSOM have
been organized and performed by the biomedical
photonics network (bmpn), a working group of the
SSOM.
People from different fields and backgrounds enjoyed 4
days of interesting talks, presentations, discussions
and exchange of questions, answers and ideas around
biophotonics.
Located in the marvelous winter setting of Engelberg
there was also time for welcomed skiing and other
sports activities.
On the first day the focus was on Diagnostic Applications, including
photonics, optical coherence tomography, near infrared
spectroscopy and pathobiology of cilia and optical
methods to measure mucociliary transport. Diagnostic Applications was continued
on Tuesday with talks about speckle correlation,
fluorescence imaging, optical coherence tomography,
light emitting diodes, optical imaging, 3D imaging and
photonic crystal structures and THz technology.
The third day was dedicated to Therapeutic Applications, e.g. laser
applications in various fields, like gynecology,
ophthalmology, and surgery. Other subjects were
computer assisted surgery, therapy and photodynamic
depilation.
New Technical Developments was
the topic on the fourth day. Talks were about
programmable phase modulator, laser tweezers arrays,
signaling in nanometer and attoliter range and digital
holographic microscopy.
Thanks to the organizers, speakers and last but not
least to all participants who helped to make this event
a great success.

At the 6th of July 2004 the inaugural meeting for the
biomedical network took place in Zurich. During the
morning the aims and the goals as well as the
structures of this new interdisciplinaire platform were
discussed. After the lunch every member from every
scientific field had a short presentation.
